UPDATES: Concord and Southland (and a little Stewardship)

Pastor Scott - November 18, 2024

A lot has happened recently in regards to the direction of our former campuses at Concord and Southland. Let’s start with Concord.

After successfully helping members of Christ Concord relocate to new churches, we turned our attention to selling the property. Our intention was to partner with an organization to build a neighborhood of affordable housing. For that, we turned to WE BUILD, a non-profit out of Concord that does amazing work. After they did their due diligence, they determined that the cost of the land (one million) was too much for them to do the project that they wanted.

While this was a deep disappointment for us, we have 3-4 churches who expressed interest in purchasing the land and church for the same price for their own use. On Monday, November 18, the Council discussed these offers and we will reach out to those churches to see if they are still interested. If so, we will have to, at a later date, have a congregational meeting to review their offer and vote on this sale. Stay tuned!

As for Southland, after a series of town meetings earlier this year which made it very clear that the vision of soccer fields and a large pavilion did not have widespread support, we decided to hold the land for the time being until a future vision could be established.  Meanwhile, we wanted to spend some money fixing up the Deck Barn for congregational use such as youth groups, women’s circles, men’s group, small groups, etc. This meant adding two ADA bathrooms, finishing the walls and ceiling, adding a serving counter and putting in a prep sink. On November 18, the Council reviewed the bid to do this work and approved spending about $70,000. This money will come from Good Soil, the money raised to improve Southland. I am excited that we will have this additional space for a unique place to expand our ministry opportunities.

Finally, a quick word about Stewardship. At the writing of this blog, we have received 356 Intention Cards for 2025 towards our goal is 400. Those Intentions total $2,107,600 or roughly $5920 per family unit. That’s amazing! Thank you so much. And if you haven’t returned your Intention Card yet, I encourage you to do so. These help tremendously as we make plans for our 2025 ministry needs.

As we approach Thanksgiving, we pause to count our blessings, to thank God for his abundance and to return to him with a grateful heart.

Peace,

Pastor Scott
