The Never-ending Journey

The Never-ending Journey

Pastor Ryan - July 22, 2024

When I walk with new Christians, people who, for the first time, are learning about God in their life, they are bombarded by miracles. I have no other way of saying it. There seems to be, with them, a never-ending stream of extreme coincidence, God sightings and straight-up miracles. It is so common I look forward to it. There is a kind of breaking in of the Spirit and new Christians are flooded. Now, sometimes I think these miracles are just experiences that the new Christian didn’t know were normal. Like, being known in Church. That someone the new Christian sat next to one week would remember their name and welcome them again the following week. Or, that church members would bring food and reach out to another member that they barely or don’t even know.

At some point the miracles stop. The early signs and exhilaration fades. I think we have all experienced this. The feeling that God, who once was so present, is missing or absent. This isn’t an abandoning, rather a weathering. An opportunity for the Christian to earn some stripes, if you will. In these moments, for new Christians, and veterans, there is a season to either move toward God or away.

To move away from God and go our own way is the very definition of sin. To move toward God is the life of a disciple. There are many tools to help in that endeavor: daily devotions, weekly worship, small groups, prayer groups, blogs from pastors; the list is endless. The bottom line here is that our connection with Jesus, and our salvation is not a one-time affair. Our life in Christ is an ongoing entity. It didn’t reach completion when we said a prayer or committed our life to Jesus, or were baptized, confirmed, or took communion.

A life in Christ is ever ongoing. A journey where God is still breaking in, showing up and orchestrating. Choose to be with Him and go with His love.
