Guitars, Growth and God
Pastor Scott - September 9, 2024
I’m re-starting something this week that I haven’t done in 40 years. I’ve played guitar for many years, mostly perfecting the five chords that will play any campfire song or children’s chapel service, but finally I am ready to get serious. Anyone who has heard me will probably say, “It’s about time!”
If I’m going to do this well, the first thing I must do is set aside the time. So, every Tuesday at 5:00 I drive to a music academy and sit with my guitar in the waiting room with mostly elementary and middle school children, all waiting to be called into the practice room by our teacher. The point is this, I will never get better and grow in my guitar playing unless I set aside that intentional time to make it a priority.
The same is true about our faith. You must make that intentional time to make it a priority.
WEDNESDAYS ABLAZE begins this week, September 11, with a dinner starting at 5:00 with classes, small groups, rehearsals and gatherings for all ages. Click this link to see all of the offerings!
Growing in your faith, deepening your Christian relationship, and understanding the Bible doesn’t just happen with good intentions and wishful thinking. I learned that with many years of just going through the motions with my mediocre guitar playing. I had to put those lessons down on the calendar.
As we begin WEDNESDAYS ABLAZE tomorrow, I would encourage you to do the same. Put it on the calendar for your entire family. I’m teaching a class on Understanding Your Neighbors’ Faith in which I will be bringing in clergy from a variety of faith backgrounds for us to understand their theology and to ask questions. Come and see.
I hope my guitar playing gets better this year. That may be questionable. But I can guarantee that your personal faith will grow as you make this fall an intentional season to set aside that time for WEDNESDAYS ABLAZE.
Peace,
Pastor Scott
