Don't Hide the Good Stuff

Don't Hide the Good Stuff

Pastor Ryan Ritzmann - December 2, 2024

My wife found the pecan pie hidden in the veggie drawer of the fridge.

I wasn’t hiding it. No, really. It just happened to find its way there. See, I made a pie, because it's the holidays. After I made the pie, it had to be refrigerated, cause, pies. As I opened the fridge to put the pie away, I was met with the daunting task of finding room. #firstworldproblems. The task ahead of me was simple: play Tetris with all the leftovers of half-eaten dinners, and pizza boxes and garlic knots, or put it in the veggie drawer. The choice was simple.

Because the pie is in the drawer the kids never found it. Don’t judge me, my kids eat their vegetables. It’s just that, that is not the first place they are going to look for a snack. Honestly, I’m not sure why my wife looked in the drawer either. But she found the good stuff.

We can inadvertently hide the good stuff in our life.

I’m thinking especially about this time of year, you know, the holidays. This season is the time when people who have gotten out of the habit of worshiping are searching. They want to find the good stuff, but they don’t know where to look. Maybe they had a church home but for all kinds of reasons that isn’t working out. Or maybe they haven’t found a church to call home, but the pull of tradition and that magical candle-lit service still lingers as a fond memory.

This is your moment. Don’t let the good stuff stay hidden. Invite the people of your life to worship Christ at his birth. Tell the people you see regularly how much you are looking forward to this year's Christmas service. Share with them the best part of the season: the coming of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

We can inadvertently hide the good stuff. This Christmas season, let your light shine and invite someone to worship with you. The overwhelming majority of people want a place to worship that wants them to be there. When you invite them, you are putting yourself out there, and making it easier for someone to know they are wanted. We all want to be wanted. That, and a nice slice of pie wouldn’t hurt either.
